Hi there & welcome to Annie's Place. A place inspired by and named after my late Grandmother Annie. Somewhere I can be creative, and share my love for all things handmade. I like nothing better than sitting with hook & yarn, crafting something home spun & completely unique, or rustling up some yummy baked goodies. I live in a town with a beautiful embankment, situated on the River Great Ouse. You may know me as CosyKitty on Ravelry. Why not stop a while.....?!!

Bank holiday bliss

Very rarely do we get good weather on a UK Bank Holiday weekend, so when I awoke to glorious sunshine on Saturday morning, it filled me with optimism. Nothing concrete was planned, which is always the way I like it. It would be fair to say that I prefer to let things happen spontaneously. I tend to act on impulse a lot of the time, something that my family would definitely say is an irksome trait of mine. My mum would often remark 'you do take notions Sharron'. Well yes it's true, I do. But hey, that's me and at my age I doubt I'll change any time soon.

Time spent with family & friends and plenty of good food featured highly over the last 3 days. We went to the Kite Festival held at a popular local park. It was very busy especially the beer tent, with plenty of attractions to keep everyone amused. I particularly liked the old fashioned Ferris Wheel, each carriage brightly painted.

Aside from the outdoor pursuits, it was perfect conditions for some hooky time. Do you like my latest colour crush project? As per usual I've taken a Jan Eaton pattern, and added my own twist. This is the lovely 'Willow' block. I followed the first 5 rounds, then improvised my own two rounds to make it into a solid square. I plan on crocheting them together once I've got a decent stack of them.

My oh my do I love this vibrant cotton yarn. Some Catania, some Sublime Egyptian, I just can't get enough of it. I've been pretty good though you know? I haven't bought any new yarn for ages *polishes halo*. Hence why most of the projects you'll see are made from the same stash. I am tempted mind, especially when I see amazing projects online like this & this, you can see why I'd be desperate to replenish my stocks with a more subdued palette!

Until then, I'll just have to sit at my desk and salivate.
Is there such a thing as Y.A. (Yarn-a-holics Anonymous)?
I think I might need to seek therapy.....! :)

  2. No need for Yarnaholics Anonymous (though there is a group on Ravelry). I bought approx 200 balls of yarn since early March (I blame Factory Outlets and the Drops Sale!) so you are a good girl compared with me!

Really like your version of the Jan Eaton Square. I am seeing lots of these around lately. Maybe I should buy that book?

Oh, and a bit of sunshine is so nice after all that rain, isn't it? Here in Germany we are seeing sun very rarely these days. It's raining cats and dogs most of the time - at very low temperatures that is...

  3. I love this block. I have the book by Jan Eaton, but I really like your take on the Willow block much better. Do you think you may write the pattern down for the outer edges? I'd love to know how you did it. Anyway, just wanted you to know how much I love your block. The colors are gorgeous. Thanks for sharing your work. :)

A lovely post, thank you! Joy xx
P.S. We nearly had another coincidence: I had thought to include a pic of my computer in my latest post along with the other gift pics but decided I had done enough already! x

  10. Such pretty blocks, I definitely love your twist with the different colours! Ahh, you have every reason to polish your halo, me on the other hand... I rushed into my LYS just yesterday and in a record time of what must have been 40 seconds max I scooped up yarn, payed, and was back in the street with 5 balls of Regia in my arms, convinced that I NEED another shawl. It's the horrid wheather I tell you! ;-) xxxx
p.s. I meant to ask you if you are on Pinterest?

  11. I love your squares, the way you've used a toning colour for each border. It's fascinating how the same block can produce endless different looks depending on the yarn and colours used. Good luck with finishing it. xx

  15. I do so love your blog ... Vibrant colours, gorgeous yarns and happy days. What more could we ask for. I also have been studying Jan Eaton's book and love your adaptation of the willow block. I've just finished a blanket using her bobble pattern which has come out really well. I think I may need to join yarn anon too!
